Trading Glossary

Trades that take place outside a public exchange’s order book. These transactions are usually arranged privately between parties or through brokers.

The price at which a seller is willing to sell an asset, also called the ask price.

An economy engaged in global trade and capital flows.

The total number of active futures or options contracts that haven’t been closed or settled yet.

Actions by a central bank to buy or sell government securities in the market. They’re used to control money supply and influence interest rates.

A secondary market offering, similar to a rights issue. In an open offer, a shareholder is allowed to purchase stock at a price that is lower than the current market price.

A buy or sell order not yet executed, active until filled, canceled, or expired.

A trade that has been executed but not yet closed, exposing the trader to market movements.

An investment fund that pools money from many investors to buy a diverse portfolio of assets like stocks, bonds, or property.
