How to Customize Your MT5 Chart

Turn the default MT5 chart into something that works for you. Here’s how to adjust colours, candles, layouts, and save custom templates for quick access.

Hi and welcome to this Daman Markets tutorial on how to customize your charts. What we can see in front of us right now is the default setting for the chart package. Let’s say it’s not something that you’re familiar with or comfortable with and you would like to change that. This is how you would go about changing it.

There’s a couple of ways to get rid of your grid lines in the back. You could either right click, select ‘Grid’ and that will remove it for you. Alternatively, what you can do is go to the chart and select ‘Grid‘ here as well, and that will toggle it on and off for you. In addition to that, you could actually customize the colors on your charts by simply right clicking and going to ‘Properties‘.

Here it will give you the option of how to customize your charts to make it unique to yourself. You’ve got your options here as to what type of chart you would like, whether it’s a candlestick, a line chart, a barchart, so on and so forth. What information you would like shown and colors you would like customized.

So, say for example you want a white background with a black foreground, simply click here, select the color that you want, and you can customize it accordingly. So you can see that it’s something that’s more unique to the way that I trade.

In addition to that, how to customize your bull and bear candles. You have your bar up and bar down. Simply select the colors that you’re after. So I’ve got my bar up here and I’ve got my bull candle here, say I want to change it to a lighter green and for my bar down I would like it red, so I’ll select red here. And my bear candle, I’ll also have it shaded red.

Once you’ve customized it the way that you want simply press ‘OK‘ and it will display it for you here. A really, really useful tip. What you can do is if you go into your charts and select ‘Templates‘ and then click on ‘Save Templates‘.

There it will give you the option to name your template so I will say ‘Hassan Chart’ and then I will save it and then when I select a different market, instead of going through the whole process again step-by-step, what you can simply do is right-click, go down to your templates, select the ‘Hassan Chart’ and it will automatically fill it in for you.
